A true friend is not like the rain ____ AKSHR

A true friend is not like the rain

A true friend is not like the rain

which pours and goes away.

A true friend is like the air,

sometimes silent but always around you.

I don’t know why you left me here.

You never told me where you were going,

or how long you would be gone.

But I know there is no place like home.

I am a true friend and will always be around you

even if we are far apart.

The Smallest of Those ____ AKSHR

The Smallest of Those

Don’t overlook life’s small joys

while searching for the big ones

because the moment you recognize them,

the tiny ones, is the moment when they are gone.

Without them what would we be?

Without them how would we know joy?

In this way they are bigger than us because they live in us,

They are the light from a match, and we are the flame.

I Know ____ AKSHR

I Know

When I want to smile,

I know exactly what to do,

I just close my eyes and I think of you.

Without you, I’m still running.

I need to find your face in the crowd,

the only one looking back at me.

Without you, I’m just a tangle of limbs

and a mouth full of questions.

I want to open my eyes and be sure that

everything is as it should be:

that you are here with me.

Without love we are like trees without sap. _____ AKSHR

Without love we are like trees without sap.

Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others

and the delight in the recognition.

Without love we are like trees without sap.

Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others

and the delight in the recognition.

Without love we are like trees without sap.

The leaves fall off, the trunk rots within

and soon there is only a stump remaining.

What is left is a tree that cannot feed itself,

that cannot bear fruit,

that cannot support more than its own weight.

What is left is a tree that cannot feed itself,

that cannot bear fruit,

that cannot support more than its own weight.

Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others

and the delight in the recognition.

Without love we are like trees without sap.

Assumptions _____ AKSHR

Assumptions

Assumptions are the termites of relationships.

Like the ones I’ve made about you.

I assumed that since my father was the first to go,

first to die, that you would be next.

Without a father for so many years, I always thought

I’d lose you before I lost my mother.

I’ve always thought you were my best friend,

my confidant.

But I never thought to ask if that was true.

I assumed you didn’t want to talk about it.

I assumed you wanted to be left alone.

And so I abandoned you when I needed someone the most.

Assumptions are the termites of relationships.

The Call ____ AKSHR

The Call

A great relationship is about two things.

First, appreciating the similarities,

and second, respecting the differences.

Loving is about two things.

First, making space for the other,

and second, knowing how to give yourself away.

The happiness of one person can only ____ AKSHR

The happiness of one person can only

be achieved through the happiness of another.

In order to be happy oneself it is necessary

to make at least one other person happy.

Love is like a small boat that carries

two people across the sea.

The sea can be calm, but sometimes

it becomes stormy and dangerous.

Without another person to help you navigate the boat,

you are at risk of sinking or capsizing.

You can only be happy when someone else is also happy.
