Of Potato Chips in the Basement
Reading one book is like eating one potato chip
you are never really satisfied.
You turn the pages and reach for another,
but the bag is empty. You want it all.
You want more, more, more.
One potato chip is not enough for you to feel
full.
But if you had a whole bag, then you would be
satisfied.

What is a Book? ---- there would be less love AKSHR
What is a Book?
there would be
less love.
Once you have read a book you care about,
some part of it is always with you
One day you may forget what it said or did,
but you will never forget how it made you feel
Without that book the world would be
a different place,
and not necessarily better
Without that book there would be
less kindness in
the world.
Without that book there would be
less understanding.
Without that book there would be
less love.

In The Night _____ AKSHR
In The Night
Literature is the most
agreeable way of ignoring
life.
In the night,
the moon gets caught in
the branches of an ugly
tree.
Without flowers,
its bark is like a scar.
It’s early morning and
you’re up in an attic room.
You were always a bad sleeper;
you’ve never been
able to relax.
You are a bad sleeper who
loves books about sleep.
You love books about sleep
for their absurd humor.
How do you want to sleep?
You must want to be
awake.
To cite the beloved author,
“I did not say I was
asleep!”

Reading and Listening _____AKSHR
Reading and Listening
Man reading should be man intensely alive.
The book should be a ball of light in one’s hand.
The lights should be lit, the curtains open.
The words a matter of life and death.
For man reading there should be
no other
possibility than to read.
The book should be
a ball of light in one’s hand.
That needs a proper ending.

And that's just not right ____ AKSHR
And that's just not right
Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.
Without reading, you will be forever a slave.
The boys in the alley were all dreaming of a good
job.
Of how to get out of the heat & dirt of the factory floor,
into the office with air conditioning
and a window looking out on the city.
Without reading, there is no way to get
a good job that pays well enough to put food on the table.
Without reading, you will stay in the same place
forever.
And that's just not right.
