In The Night
Literature is the most
agreeable way of ignoring
life.
In the night,
the moon gets caught in
the branches of an ugly
tree.
Without flowers,
its bark is like a scar.
It’s early morning and
you’re up in an attic room.
You were always a bad sleeper;
you’ve never been
able to relax.
You are a bad sleeper who
loves books about sleep.
You love books about sleep
for their absurd humor.
How do you want to sleep?
You must want to be
awake.
To cite the beloved author,
“I did not say I was
asleep!”
