The hands that help are better
far than lips that pray
if you can’t touch God,
hold a hand.
A hand that says,
I know you,
God knows you
and we are both in this together.
Even if the words are too heavy to lift up
and even if your lipsfeel sewn shut
with the thread of your mother’s prayers,
your hands will speak for you.
If one day your eyes turn from
seeing to remembering
and you ask why there is no God,
you will find your answer
in your hands.
