Human Love

 

Oh, how good it is to be with someone, sometimes

to rest in another person’s arms and feel safe

to be vulnerable, to be able without fear

to show weakness. And yet it is also good sometimes

to be alone, to walk the streets of a foreign city,

to sit in the park or go to a movie alone,

to be free from worry about how one’s partner is feeling.

 

Love is sometimes all about giving and sometimes

all about taking. And yet it is always good to be loved,

even when one does not love in return.
