The Ruled
Everybody has an addiction,
mine just happens to be you.
I am a felon, I have been caught red handed.
I have been found out and now I’m here to pay.
In a correctional facility, my time is set,
not by the clock but by the moon, the tide and the sun.
Here we work hard, our days are long and hot.
We harvest tomatoes in a field that is not our own.
We sing to ourselves as we work, we laugh at our pain.
There are no lines here between what is sacred and profane;
everybody has an addiction, mine just happens to be you.
