The Man
don't try rush things
that need time to grow
underground
the grass starts slow
the seeds need rain,
then sun, then roots
then blades of new green grass
till it's time for
mowing and trimming
the edges of the lawn
that I may lay down
on a soft blanket
in the summer breeze
—a long afternoon nap.
without my dreams disturbing me
—no one home,
no one to cook dinner
or wash dishes.
no one to answer
the phone or tell me
things that I don't want to hear.
