The Garbage Collector
All suffering originates from craving,
from attachment, from desire.
In this sense, the garbage collector
is no different from anyone else.
Without any family to speak of,
he spends his days in a truck,
collecting the city's refuse.
It's on these days when he thinks
of how much his father hated him.
On those days, he's sure his father
would be happy to see him
doing what he did,
collecting the garbage of society.
But on other days,
when he thinks of his father at home
sitting by himself in a house
with no one to talk to but himself,
he isn't so sure that his father
is as content with his life as he is.
All suffering originates from
craving and attachment.
The garbage collector has
an attachment to his work,
and it seems like a good thing.
