I like my house
Love, you know, seeks to
make happy rather than to be happy
the one loved. Love would
rather see the beloved
happy than be made happy by
the beloved.
Without happiness, love is
unhappy; with happiness, love
is happy. Happiness is
essential to love and so
love seeks to make it
happen. No matter what it takes, love
would do anything for
happiness. “Give me a drink,” as we
all know, said Jesus of his
friends at the last supper, “for I am
thirsty.”
Love is thirsty for happiness, and so it seeks to make happy rather than be happy.
