Be Patient 

 

Scream until your throat is raw, or be silent

And let them think you are stupid.

Let their eyes glaze over when you speak.

Their stare will tell you that your words are fruitless.

When you ask for food, a bit of land, a job and nothing more,

they will shake their heads, as if to say, 

“You have to be patient.”

Without a word, they will take away your children—

just like that—because they must prepare them for the future.

And, when you are old and worn out, they will tell you, 

“Be patient.”
