The slavery of fear had made men afraid to think.

They would not reason. They would not be free.

They would not think for themselves, 

because it was safer to be wrong with the crowd.

Without thinking, without reasoning, 

without being free to think,

They were happy and comfortable 

in their fear of reason and fear of freedom.

Without being separate from the crowd 

in thought or in action, 

They were safe in their slavery.

The slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. 

But I am tired of being afraid!

their sorrow was all melody, no words,

no sensual movement between the notes.

 

The sad souls of those who cannot love.
