Writing is Always an Act of Faith
Our life is frittered away by detail .... simplify, simplify.
I'd like to say I am a person of faith, but I'm not sure.
Without faith, though, I would never have started writing.
I mean faith in the sense of believing that what you are doing is
worthwhile
and will lead somewhere.
The kind of belief that can get you
through an entire day
or a series of days without complaint.
I'm not talking about the kind of faith that people have in God,
or in anything else but themselves.
Faith is what keeps you going when everything is against you.
It's when you believe enough to take a chance,
to try something new and different, to make a change for the better.
To do whatever it takes to work your way out of the trap that has
become your life.
Faith is what gets you through the day-to-day drudgery and tedium
of your existence; it's what sustains you until tomorrow comes.
It's what motivates you to keep writing even when nothing seems
worthwhile or possible anymore.
And it's always there with you because it is a part of who and
what you are: it's your inner voice, speaking to yourself on the inside.
It never leaves you, no matter how dark things get around you, because faith doesn't care how difficult things are; faith only cares about where things are going and how they will turn out in the end ....
