The Farmer and the Fish
Life shrinks or expands in
proportion to one’s courage
I was more comfortable with
uncertainty
when I was a child
When from the terrace of my
parents’ house I watched the sea
And boats—hundreds of them, thousands of them,
their sails bellying in the breeze—
My heart would fill with wonder and I thought:
“Someday I will have a boat.”
