Things We Set out to Do
I’m incomplete when you’re away,
but I feel more than whole when you’re here.
Without you I’m not myself:
there are snags in the works,
the air is stale, and the
days too long.
Without you I stay up late into the night,
watching movies or reading
books that I don’t enjoy.
The quality of my work deteriorates.
My mind wanders to other places,
where it shouldn’t go.
And when you do return,
I am distracted by your presence;
I am not myself.
