So Funny, Isn't She?
A good laugh heals a lot of
hurts
and, for a moment, makes us
feel like children who
don't know better.
Without knowing better, we
can laugh at
the way the world is.
Without knowing better, we
can be
happy that someone else
will do our work
or kiss our wounds or cry
when we die.
We can think that's funny.
We can say things
that sound like jokes and
wonder why no one laughs;
we can be so funny, our
mothers worry about us.
Laughter is an old
medicine, a tonic for rough times,
and it's free: all you need
to do is take it.
